EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitisation and ReprocessingEye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

A non hypnotic therapy used to resolve/remove symptoms and issues resulting from exposure to a frightening or traumatic event. EMDR was originally developed to treat adults suffering from PTSD – Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – ideally soldiers returning from warzones, or rape victims.  However, its use has become more widespread in eliminating and processing other distressing experiences/memories, thus aiding recovery of the client’s symptoms. It is also used to treat children.

EMDR was first developed by Francine Shapiro upon noticing that certain eye movements reduced the intensity of disturbing thought.  This is done by having the clients recall the trauma while following the therapist’s hand movement.

In some studies it has been shown to be equivalent to cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapies, and more effective than some alternative treatments. Although some clinicians may use EMDR for various problems, its research support is primarily for disorders stemming from distressing life experiences.

June is a Certificated Therapist for the use of EMDR and has assisted clients in eliminating migraine, panic attacks and anxieties. This can be an amazing therapy.
